Fresh from graduating from the 2024/25 Level 2 IBU Academy course EGBC’s Head Coach Damon Morton has gone to Vuokatti, Finland, where he is undertaking a coaching exchange with the Vuokatti Sports Academy and Olympic Training Centre. Vuokatti Sports Academy is involved in running Finland National Upper Secondary Sports School and Junior Team program along with the Finland IBU Cup team program.
Damon will assist Head Coach Jussi Simula and IBU Cup coach Ilkka Jarva with coaching.
The initiative is a product of the Finland / Australia National Federation Partnership project of IBU season 2024/25. As part of this project Damon lead an Australian National Team IBU Cup and World Cup team camp in Martell, Italy, training alongside the Finnish IBU Cup and World Cup team to firstly lead into the Open European Championships and then to prepare for the World Championships in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. Noah Bradford, Phoenix Sparke and Darcie Morton represented Australia at the 2025 Biathlon World Championships.
Damon will coach EGBC pathway members via zoom over this period before going onto work for Biathlon Australia and leading our AUS athletes at the IBU / IOC summer biathlon camp in Lillehammer, Norway, from the 28 June until 6 July.
We are pleased to support Damon with these endeavours with the understanding he is returning to AUS to work for EGBC over the winter to lead the implementation of our on snow program and Biathlon for All Abilities Project.
